Site-specific Instagram filter for the space Alimentación 30

"Right over there is where I was born... see that balcony next to the lamppost? There, where the bar is, there used to be a cellar. Right next door, where the plants are, there was a shoe repair shop... and later they opened an American club. Here was Benigno and Manola's dairy, with its white wooden counter, and then, when we opened the grocery store, you’d find a regular display case with yogurts and everything else. Here, everything: the oils... the rice, the bread here... We had one brand here, the other one there... and on the other side, all kinds of soups, flour, salt... a bit of everything.” Ángela recalls the neighborhood where she was born and has lived for many years. Her relationship with Dr. Fourquet street brings to mind memories ranging from the day her father was arrested for being Spanish Republican in the 1930s to when, in the mid-1960s, she accidentally met the love of her life, Domingo, at the dairy where he worked. They later married, started a family, and ran the store once called _Granja S. Rafael_ —now occupied by Alimentación 30, a project by Valeria Maculan—. Through her testimony, that space-image is described and reconstructed, now altered by time. She keeps a black-and-white photograph from that time, a small format by today's standards of almost infinite zooms. With its worn and yellowed edges, it takes us to a place where today that space has occupied itself.

Filtros JUYMA is an artistic duo formed by Juan De Andrés Arias and Miguel Ángel Tornero. Utilizing Instagram filters (which were available until January 14th, 2025, and are now defunct), they explore the intersection of emerging technological tools for domestic use and established forms of artistic production.
